Heat Rising
Overview
Heat Rising is a short incremental game where God broke his heater. Due to this, the heat in the universe keeps rising and earth must keep cool. It was entered into the GMTK 2026 game jam.

The unique twist of this game, is that unlike an incremental where you can last forever. You try to survive an ever intensifying heat death.

What did I learn? What am I proud of?
The game uses quite cool tech, as all upgrades are just custom resources. This makes it very easy to add new ones with their own prerequisites and stat changes.

I do this by primaiely using the get() and set() functions in Godot, which I had also wanted to do in Yet Another Asteroids Game, until I realized Unity did not support this functionality.

What went wrong?
The last few days of development were unlike normal game development, as I didn't have access to my PC.

However, when I lost access to my PC, I hadn't finished the upgrades yet.

After testing alternatives for Godot like the android mobile app, I realized I had only one option... Coding on controller.

I had downloaded Godot on Steam Deck, which allowed me to edit the game using touchscreen and the trackpads. Luckily my upgrades were easy to add since they used resources, otherwise I couldn't have finished it.
